It is impossible to ignore KZ. They just keep going. One Cocktail after the next. Some hit the mark and others don’t but KZ doesn’t stop to reflect on this. They just keeping going. There is a world to conquer. An IEM kingdom to rule and KZ plan to achieve it with a flood of KZ IEMs.

KZ exclusively target the budget and ultra budget IEM market. At low prices KZ IEMs can offer unbeatable value. Often offering a sound that far exceeds the price. This aim to get the best sound for the least amount of money drives all their products which generally offer poor cables, limited eartips, no other accessories, and often  drab looking IEMs. Additionally, questions over the build and quality assurance are not uncommon.

KZ have a scattered approach to driver configurations. It is not really possible to state what driver type or configurations KZ specializes in. Roseselsa IEMs – The One Known By Many Names

Founded in 2015 as Rose Technics also sometimes just known as Rose, roseselsa is a chinese hiFi company whose identity centre on compact, high-fidelity earphones and experimental driver technologies.

Along with the change in name the company diversified from IEMs and now inlcudes TWS earbuds, Over-ear headphones, dac/amps and other accessories. this may however be at odds with the change in name with roseselsa a reference to buddhist sumbolism about selectvity and refinement (I could be so wrong on this).

Such diversity has encouraged roseselsa to develop a range of technologies and driver configurations. In particular they have established the use of miniaturised flat planel drivers, electrostatic diaphragm technologies and bone-conduction drviers. roseslsa certainly want to be considered as an innovation driven chi-fi brand.

TRN IEMs – The Rise of the Great Rival Empire

TRN is a chi-fi audio company that makes more than just IEMs. Founded some time in the mid 2010s (possibly 2012 or 2017), TRN produces IEMs, earphones, cables and other audio related accessories. Along with KZ, TRN were there in the early days of Chi-Fi and in this distance past they established a rivalry that still exists. KZ want to rule the IEM world but TRN have certainly got something to say about that. The TRN IEMs are ready for battle and they won’t be backing down.

The war with KZ is very much a battle of attrition. These two giants are fighting in the field with the same ideas and very similar toolsets. TRN (like KZ) are mostly positioned as a budget IEM manufacture aiming to offer high value IEMs punching well above their cost though recent years have seen them expand to produce more mid-fi sets. Recent TRN IEMs have further distinguished themselves from KZ by incorporating highly artistic marketing and aesthetic design taking inspiration from a range of sources most notably the Sea and the Four Guardian Gods. To keep the battle going TRN have adopted a fast product cycle.

TRN use a wide range of driver configurations that include BA Drivers, Dynamic Drivers, Planar Drivers, Square Planar Drivers, EST drivers as well as hybrids and tribrids. Their IEMs often feature a large number of drivers particularly for the price point.

Tangzu IEMs – Notable IEMs:

V90: This IEM was an early major success that went toe to toe with the KZ ZS10 Pro solidifying TRN as a recognised budget powerhouse. Perhaps they lost the battle but the war is not over yet.

VX Pro: This IEM showed that TRN could produce more refined and technical cable hybrid IEMs. It marked a step away from pure budget tuning and showed the brand’s ability to deliver coherent multi-driver hybrids.

Shell: This IEM revived the market buzz surrounding budget IEMs. The Shell showed that within the budget space wasn’t just same old same old. It looked different. It used a driver configuration ambition at the price. And, most importantly, it had the performance.
