The HiFi Mai Tai Beach Bar Bartender…

Hi there. I am the HiFi Mai Tai Beach Bar Bartender. but no need to be formal. You can call Me The Bartender.

Its my job as the bartender to taste all the cocktails (IEMs). I take my taste tests very seriously and always aim to give you the advice you need. But this is a beach bar. We do things differently here and we know that sometimes our patrons find our relaxed, peaceful and mindful ways a challenge. To help we have produced the HiFi Mai Tai Beach Bar Dictionary. Your guide to the beach bar Lingo. Check it out Below.

To ensure all my taste tests are helpful and compariable I have spent a lot of time developing my methods. All new IEMs are first used for Approximatly 50 hours using a range of sources, cables, eartips etc. In this listening period back to back comparisons with previously reviewed IEMs are conducted.

Following this initial listening I begin using the DJ’s test playlist recording the particulars of the test setup. The IEMs are rated against the songs of the DJ’s playlist and so the scores are only reflective of this.

Once the DJ’s playlist has been listened to in full. I produced my review. I hope that you enjoy them. I hope you find it useful. I certainly enjoy my taste tests and the hunt for great cocktails never ends.

Key audio Terms

At the HiFi Mai Tai Beach Bar Sound is described a little differently. When reviwing the sound of IEMs I consider the following Key Aspects and score against each of these areas. All of these areas are considered equally when determining the final score and these aspects along with the vocals are the only aspects considered in the total audio Score.

The Base Spirit

The Base Spirit is the Bass (Low Frequencies). Its the slam and the rumble. My personal preference is for a hefty bass presence. I want it to hit hard and linger for just a moment.

The Modifier

The Modifer is the mid frequencies. Generally, the majority of instrumentation will be considered here. I want my Mids to be clear and spacious leaving plenty of room for the vocals

The Sweetener

The Sweetener is the treble (high frequencies). Generally, this is where the sharp high pitched sounds are. I want my treble to sparkle and shimmer with lots of detail. Please consider that my preference is likely for Sharper treble than most prefer. Treble sensitive Individuals are Unlikely to Agree with My Preference.

The Garnish

The Garnish is the details. Its those small sounds and textures that add to the enjoyment. I want my cocktails to have lots of detail particualrly in the trebel and bass.

The Presentation

The Presentation is the technicals. This includes the soundstage, the imaging and the clarity. Good cohesive presentation is key for any cocktail.

key Non Audio Terms

Cocktails are about more than Just taste. When reviewing IEMs I consider the following Aspects and score against these areas. These areas are weighted when determining the final score. Comfort, Build, Style, Accessories. These Aspects are considered with the Total Audio Score to Determine the Final Overall Score. This consideration is weighted so that collectively the audio aspects are considered as Twice as Important.
